I really hope it doesn't get demolished, it's a beauty! Already it has suffered as it's gorgeous tree was struck by the recent tornado, but the building MUST stay!

Demolishing a century-old Carnegie Library that is far and few between in Queens for a banal glass and brick box, and not restoring and expanding the existing building creatively with architectural setbacks and synonymous features would be a travesty. I suggest you write the Landmarks Preservation Commission, Councilmember Dromm, and the NY Public Library. Let's not give in to the unideal of progress. The NY Public Library and commissioned architects needs to hit the books and think "outside of the box."

It is a bummer when buildings such as this is demolished. In my opinion it is worth restoration.

So sorry that it's gone. I remember the children's library in the basement; we would enter via a side door to the left. I still remember Miss Mullen and her enthusiasm for children's books--circa 1948, I would guess.
